Marketing Website

Every now and then you gain a client that helps you, as much as you help them, this is the case with Jon McCulloch’s new marketing website. I have learnt some excellent marketing methods from Jon so far.

Here we have one of Europe’s top marketing experts, offering marketing and sales copy that increase business and profits, the website needed to give birth to a new brand/image at the same time as being easy to navigate the extensive advice and articles regarding marketing and how to boost sales.

Jon is based on the Emerald Isle, so wanted to focus on this with the main design, hence the colours and header branding, these are not just green and orange, but the exact hex codes for the Irish national flag.

Marketing Website CMS/Wordpress

Jon’s original website was already in WordPress CMS, so it was more a case of rejigging and redesigning the layout and scheme, using the Thesis theme. Along with colour, branding and layout there has been some work on plugins and SEO (this is extremely important with ANY website, not just a marketing website), and this is where Jon is very knowledgeable, and also comes from a computer coding background originally.

This has been a really fun project, John of Harrington Builders – Croydon, wanted his old website updated, to pull in on social media feeds and other more modern, user friendly techniques.

So, I started off by removing the flash gallery that he had in place (Google hates Flash, therefore, so do I!), and creating a less dense slider/carousel that would show what he does, without being a confusing gallery for viewers, seven slider images, that have brief descriptions and link through the the relevant parts of the website.

This has Facebook page feeds and Twitter feeds directly on the website (sidebar), instead of a simple link through that does not really engage the users.

The blog/post side (this has been built in WordPress CMS, as with most of mine), is the greatest feature here, the blog has a complete eShop style gallery inbuilt, so the pictures that are added of his work, have a nice large image, with thumbnails to scroll through, icons indicating what work was done, ie builders, plasterers, electricians etc, so the UX (User Experience) has been really targeted, as people should be involved in a website, not just look and leave, we want them to enjoy their time on the website, the same way you would browsing a nice boutique or shopping centre.

This has been on the cards for a while now, creating full eCommerce/eShops within Facebook, with almost half of the UK signed up to Facebook, it makes perfect sense to sell your products via this powerful, social medium.

Here we have an extra website that people can actual browse and buy products from, with a few branding changes, it can tie in with any existing eCommerce websites, with the added plus of being in the front of over 30,000,000 UK Facebookers, and 750,000,000+ Facebook users worldwide, giving you more of a chance at gaining new customers and increasing your sales.

Most eShops on the web are constantly trying to get up on the Google rankings, imagine a shop that is promoted by your customers every time they “like” something or tell a friend at the click of a button. Well here it is.

Social Media Marketing is becoming the most affordable way to market any product, service or business, I have been an avid social media user since the day I joined Twitter, I gain more clients from this than any other form of marketing, SEO or promotion. This is an ecommerce website, offering daily living aids, mobility scooters, wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, accessories and a whole lot more. Built with growth in mind, this company is one to watch. Initially they only wanted 750 products adding to the website, categorised and listed, but are looking to be the largest Mobility supplier in the UK with 24 months. So it is with pride that we have built this website, as there is nothing better than having a client that is excited, ambitious and forward thinking (pretty much what the web is best used for!).

With a huge majority of this market being outdated and old school, it is a real pleasure to be able to build something fresh, sharp and modern, as it is not only 86 year old men using these products, in fact 19% of the British workforce age is classed as disabled.

Staggering facts:

• 6.9 million disabled people of working age.
• 10 million disabled people in Britain.
• 770,00 disabled children under the age of 16 in the UK.
• Only 8% of families get help from their local social services.
• It costs up to three times as much to raise a disabled child.
• 1.3 million disabled people in the UK who are available for and want to work.
• Half of disabled people of working age are in work.
• Almost 1/5 people of working age (7 million, or 18.6%) in the UK have a disability.

This is a huge project, and we are still working on it, getting all products, categories, descriptions, prices and images in place is a long process, but the feedback we have had has been awesome, from the company themselves (because of the easy to use admin area and design) and a few of their target audience, with one saying how nice it is to see something so modern and usable.

This is a premature portfolio post, as it is not yet finished, but adding this now will help in there SEO, as this (Kip FX) website gets a lot of traffic, so this further helps with their indexing and search engine growth.

Claire Kerr of Kerrmunications approached me for a quote on her new website, and from the start this has been a joint effort, I cannot take too much credit on the final website design either, the main theme and layout of it was already built, Claire explained what she wanted to achieve (visually and with integrated social plugins etc), and between us we found a design that was “almost” there.

So this has been more of a tweak and edit than a build, and I mean by both parties, Claire has done a major amount work on this herself. Kudos to Mrs Kerr!

From the start of this project I had explained to Claire that she will learn an awful lot about WordPress during the build and design process, and you only need to look at the new website to see just how much she has learnt! In fact, I can think of a few occasions where she had messaged me on Skype with something that needed fixing, only to add “It’s OK, sorted it!”, before I had even noticed the message!

This website is modern, just a resfresh of the previous one, the colours, brand and feel is the same, the same as you can redecorate your house, but everything is still in place. The strongest change here is that is now in WordPress (CMS), which means Claire can add to, update, share  and grow the website within a fraction of the time this would have taken with HTML. And possibly the most important achievement here is, it is more share/social friendly (I actually just tweeted from the website, a cracking blog about Content Marketing she has published).

With this being a WordPress CMS website, it needs to be loved. WordPress is like a pond, if you ignore it, it will become stagnant (not visually, but from the Search Engines point of view), use it and it will grow and shine, blogs/articles, social media integration, user comments and more. And with a few well placed plugins, the website will just keep climbing and growing.

I really can say hand on heart, that this website has gone to a good home, I only adopted it and taught it a few manners, but Claire will love and raise this website. (Her WordPress knowledge is already 10 times the average website owner)
